Being a mum is a tough gig! You are busy, you are tired, you can’t remember what you used to do with all your time before you had kids! Being a mum means we often put everyone else first. The time we used to spend on ourselves is time that is needed for changing nappies, school runs, soccer games, ballet lessons and doctors trips.
I think we should do it differently.
Michelle Obama once said that in her family – she comes first! She recognised that a woman holds the family together. Without a happy mum and happy wife the whole family breaks down. Go Michelle!
A woman who isn’t feeling good about herself is not happy. This puts stress on the relationship between you and your partner and then between you and your kids and between your partner and your kids. Happy wife, happy life and all that..
So – keeping in mind that doctors visits, soccer games, ballet lessons and changing nappies don’t just magically disappear, here are a few things you can do to make a big difference in how you feel about yourself..
1 – EYEBROWS!
Your eyebrows are probably the most important part of your face.. If you don’t believe me, have a look at a picture of someone without them! Or in my case, a picture of yourself in 1995! One word – shocking!
Eyebrows need to be done by a professional. I don’t care how good you think you are at doing them yourself – you are wrong! Even I get my eyebrows done by someone else! The results are worth every cent. Get a tint and a professional shape. The tint helps to fill in any areas that might look patchy by tinting the blonde hair that isn’t normally visible; making them look fuller. A good beauty therapist will be able to help you achieve a beautiful shape for your face.
2 – A good, versatile tinted moisturiser or foundation.
I have found my ultimate favourite by Evohe. Their Mineral Makeup powder is completely natural, vegan, palm oil free, Australian made and owned and has an SPF of 24. And the best part is that it is multi-use. You can use it as a dusting powder, or mix it with one of their moisturisers to create a tinted moisturiser. And this is where is gets really cool – mix the moisturiser with a little powder for a light coverage or more powder for a heavier coverage or concealer! One product with multiple uses – just what busy mums need!
3 – A good cleanser, toner and moisturiser.
Unfortunately for most of us, by the time we realise we are getting older and our skin just ain’t what it used to be, it’s well past the time we should have started looking after it. It’s never too late to start and the best way to start is with some great, natural skincare! Not only is natural skincare often more affordable, better for you and the environment, but it’s often a simpler routine, meaning you won’t need to spend hours in the bathroom to have beautiful skin. Earth and Skin Beauty Shop on the Gold Coast offers a beautiful range of skincare brands including Vanessa Megan, Ere Perez, Clemence Organics, Mukti Organics and more. Unsure what is best routine for your skin is? Book in for a facial and skin consultation.
4 – Lip Balm/Gloss
A bit of gloss on your lips instantly gives you some colour and a bit of freshness. It’s also an easy thing to do. Keep it in your handbag and put it on whenever you get the chance. Make sure it’s chemical free because when lip gloss comes off – it’s usually been ingested! We have a beautiful range of lip colours from your favourite clean beauty brands such as Nu Revolution, Lily Lolo, Ere Perez and more. From a soft pink to dark plum there is a shade that will suit any skin tone. And while you’re at it, dab some on your cheeks for a bit of extra colour and glow!
5 – Dry Shampoo!
OMG – where have you been all my life? I love dry shampoo! Not only does it get rid of that greasy look but it gives your hair a bit of extra volume and seems to keep it in place as well. The trouble is the bought versions have so many unnecessary chemicals and I end up with an itchy flaky scalp when I’ve used them. The good news is that it is really easy to make your own chemical free version. Try this recipe: –
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
An empty spice jar
A funnel of some kind
¼ cup Cornflower
1 tbsp Baking Soda
Cacao powder (if you have dark hair)
This recipe is for those with light coloured hair, for brunettes, just add a bit of unsweetened cacao powder. Mix it together and pour it into an empty spice jar and use it as you need it! Keep the lid on when it’s not in use so you don’t get any moisture in it and it will last for ages!
BONUS TIP
Take time out for yourself often! Whether it’s a morning coffee in peace and quiet or a relaxing facial or massage, you deserve it.
